Planned-Giving Programme
One of the ways in which we express our belonging and our belief in our church
is to support it through regular financial contributions. Our budget is directed
towards:
• Stipends and car allowances for clergy
• Parish Office and Ministry Administrator
• Various ministries within the parish community and beyond
• Assistance to our diocese and Anglicare
• Support of Missions
• Support of Schools’ Ministry
Ideally every member of the parish community provides some contribution to the
life of the parish through the use of envelopes or by direct bank debit. Members
and supporters of the parish are encouraged to consider a memorial gift or
bequest.
The parish has had a Planned-Giving Programme for many years, the last
‘Growth Mission’ was held in late 2005 with parishioners pledging for a three-year
term.
Building and Grounds Committee
This is a sub-committee of the Parish council and has the responsibility for care
and maintenance of our physical environment, cleaning, working bees and other
volunteer projects including the care of the Memorial Garden.
Herald Visitors
Nearly 40 volunteers deliver the Herald to parishioners who live within a
reasonable radius of St Michael’s. Others have their magazine posted. Visitors
try to make personal contact with their people in order to be a link to the parish
and clergy.
Parish Roll
All parishioners names are kept on a database in the office with details of their
involvement in parish groups or services, and their Herald delivery group. Details
of emergency contacts are also kept where possible. All personal details are kept
confidential unless permission is given. Details are updated constantly, and new
parishioners added as soon as details are known. Name tags are then printed.
Welcomers and Name Tags
Volunteers are at the door for every Sunday service to hand out the Pew Bulletin
and to offer a welcome, particularly to newcomers or visitors.
They wear a red spot on their name tags so they are easily identified if the clergy
need someone to make visitors welcome after the service.
Parishioners are encouraged to wear name tags so we can easily put a name to a
face, and be more welcoming to visitors and newcomers.
Sidesmen
Volunteers hand out Service sheets and Hymn books, take up the collection, and
count the money afterwards.
Hospitality
Coffee and Tea are served on the terrace or in the hall after each Sunday service.
In the winter there is toast for breakfast after 8.00 am, and on the first Sunday
there is a family sausage sizzle after the 9.15 am service.
Lay Assistants and Servers
Volunteer Altar servers assist the clergy with preparation for Communion in the
sanctuary, and Lay Assistants help with administering the Chalice.
Bible reading and Intercessions
Volunteers are rostered to read the appointed lessons for Sunday services, and to
prepare Intercessions.
Sacristans and Linen Care
Volunteers are rostered to care for the linen, vessels and vestments and to
prepare for all Communion Services in the church.
Flower Arranging
Volunteers are rostered to provide flower arrangements for Sunday services when
needed. Wedding couples provide their own flower arrangements and are asked
to leave at least one vase for Sunday services.
Brass cleaning
Volunteers are rostered to clean our beautiful brass altar rail, lectern, crosses and
candlesticks each week.
